KRISHNAMACHAYRA HEALING YOGA AND
ONE SOURCE YOGA TEACHER TRAINING
This program offers in-depth training in Yoga for personal practice and general health, as well as an introduction to healing. The program is appropriate for those who want to teach group classes and private classes for needs and goals pertaining to general health and wellness.
THE TRADITION OF T KRISHNAMACHARYA
Yoga is an ancient, healing practice meant to increase one’s quality of life -physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. It offers an opportunity to change the way we look, feel, think, act, communicate, and understand. By making a personal commitment to the process of learning to teach yoga, we become inspired to transform into clearer, more stable, more compassionate, confident individuals. Why? Because yoga offers various tools to reach us exactly where change is possible. Through the use of postures, breathing practices, visualization, chanting, self-reflection, gestures, and adapting certain attitudes, the holistic and healing underpinnings of yoga are gradually revealed. It is through the teachings of T. Krishnamacharya, widely recognized as the man who opened the door of yoga.
Tirumalai Krishnamacharya-Yogi, healer, linguist, Vedic scholar, expert in the Indian Schools of thought, researcher, author...a legend. Born in 1888 in a remote Indian village, T Krishnamacharya, who lived to be over hundred years old, was one of the greatest yogis of the modern era. Yoga is an inherent part of the everyday lives of millions of people across the world, due in large measure to the pioneering efforts of Krishnamacharya revived yoga in the early twentieth century. While preserving ancient wisdom and reviving lost teachings, Krishnamacharya was also a revolutionary innovator who developed and adapted yoga practices. He was able to offer health, mental clarity and spiritual growth to modern people from all walks of life.
The Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram
T.K.V. Desikachar founded The Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in 1976. He was inspired by his father's teachings and remained his student from the 1960's through his father’s death in 1989. Today, TKV Desikachar is known and respected the world over as an authority on yoga. He founded The Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram as a tribute to his father and mentor. It is a government recognized Public Charitable Trust. www.kym.org

A KHYF Yoga Teacher Trainer is a Yoga Teacher, who is also certified to train others to become Yoga Teachers. You can expect a KHYF Yoga Teacher Trainer to have completed a cumulative minimum of 1500 hours of training and at least five years of teaching experience.
Benefits of KHYF membership
Students in The Yoga Foundation’s 500 Hour Teacher Training Program who seek to become KHYF certified Yoga Teachers are required to register to become members of the KHYF. This allows the KHYF to track your progress and mentor hours throughout your Teacher Training program, and leads to final certification if all Training requirements are met. Once participants have been accepted into the Training program, registration instructions will be sent to them. A small fee will be charged for membership. (At the time of publication of this Information Packet, the onetime fee was about 20 Euros). Every KHYF teacher, therapist and trainer will be a member of the KHYF with full benefits, many of which will be accessible through the KHYF website. These benefits include access to articles and research features on various Yoga topics, forum discussions connecting KHYF members from around the world, Continuing Education workshops and seminars, special events and a database of all the certified teachers.

Amy wants to spread this information to the world to help in healing individuals and the planet!
PRE-REQUISITES REQUIRED FOR SERIOUS CONSIDERATION
The following pre-requisites are required so that the quality of training is maintained at the highest professional standard:
• Completion of the Application Form.
• At least two years of experience practicing Yoga.
• Applicants should be mentally and emotionally stable and demonstrate basic communication skills.
• It is preferable that the applicant have experience in intense professional studies similar to the nature of this program.
• Applicants must supply letters of recommendation from two different people, who are not relatives by birth or marriage, and who have known the applicant for at least three years. Letters should include the writer’s opinion about the applicant’s communication skills, general strengths and weaknesses, and mental and emotional maturity/stability.
• Observation of prospective Student’s practice in a group context and his/her ability to take and follow instructions and to take on the role of a student with a beginner's mind.
• An interview to assess the prospective Student’s motivation for entering the training program, communication skills, and his/her general mental and emotional stability
Once the evaluation process is complete, successful applicants will be notified of their selection. Those who are not successful will also be notified as well, and they will be offered some direction in their studies if they wish to reapply at a later date. In certain situations, an applicant can be asked to participate in tutorial sessions prior to being selected for the course. It is often the case that students applying for KHYF program will have attended several KHYF sponsored workshops so that they feel confident that this is the lineage they would like to invest their time and heart into long-term.
An attendance policy of 80% of the 500 hours is required for certification. This includes time spent on Skype lessons.
Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Tuesday 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Wednesday 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Thursday 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Friday 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Saturday 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Sunday 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.
The first day of Module 2, 3 and 4 will be an open book test to determine if the material from the previous module has been learned and if we need to review any topics. Please do your best to attend on the opening day so that you can be included.
Note: We have chosen these hours so that we can work with the Southern California traffic patterns and some students may be able to commute. The yoga room will be open starting at 8:00 a.m. for personal practice and study time.
Weekly Skype lessons for the teacher training group will be Wednesday afternoons from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Pacific Coast Time. This is approximately 80 hours in the 1-year period for the 200-hour students. This is approximately 160 hours in the 2-year period for the 500-hour students. . You will be asked to complete homework and reading assignments over the 2-year period. Modifications can be made for international students who cannot make the 1:30- 3:30 p.m. PAC hour.
You will be asked to do a daily practice, as given by your mentor, and to keep a daily journal of your practice progress.
Additionally you will need to meet with your KHYF mentor approximately 12 times in the 1-year period for 200-hour students and 25 times during the 2-year period for the 500hour students. If you already have a strong personal practice and years with your mentor this requirement may be reduced.
Please look at the KHYF website for choosing your mentor. There are many mentors available in California. Amy would be happy to be considered as a mentor for anyone that she feels is a good fit. If she feels that someone else might be able to help the student more, she will recommend another mentor. If you are coming from another country, it might be best to find a mentor in your home country.
When choosing a mentor please see the www.khyf.net website and find someone that is near to you. Interview possible mentors and find out if they have the time and energy required to support you. Ask them questions to see if your personalities will match and provide benefit to one another. You may want to have several telephone calls or in-person interviews.
Keep in mind that you will need to have someone that you can do your observation, assisting and supervised teaching hours with. This could be your mentor or it could be another KHYF/ KYM certified teacher. We will even accept students who observe with teachers who are certified by the American Viniyoga Institute (AVI) for observation and assisting hours. You may want to do some of this research before the training begins because it is often difficult to fulfill these hours if there is not a KHYF/ KYM/ AVI teacher near to you. Twenty five hours of observations and assists of KHYF style group classes will also required to graduate.
There are several hotels nearby that cost from $35-120 per night. We will be happy to send you a packet with all of the logistics about the training if you need more information to make your decision.
Student Evaluation Processes
During the course of the training, students will be evaluated and their progress assessed in the following three contexts:
1. Relationship with the Mentor: The quality of the relationship between Student and Mentor reflects the evolution of a good Teacher-Student relationship, which is central to Yoga. -Regular meetings, the development of a personal practice and its evolution over time form an important part of the evaluation process. The Student must practice regularly. -In cases where the relationship between the Student and Mentor does not work effectively, a Student may request a change of Mentor and an alternate. Mentor will be found for the student. Such a change is allowed a maximum of three times. The Student must use the Trainer Transfer Form or the Mentor Transfer Form in order to effect the change.
2. Personal Evolution: These two words capture the main goal of Yoga, and students will naturally develop and change as a result of their yoga practice. This development may happen in a wide range of areas but definitely includes maintaining appropriate moral and ethical standards.
3. Continuing Assessment of Studies: The Trainers will evaluate each Student’s progress throughout the course of the program. Evaluations will take the form of written and oral tests, presentations, papers, teaching observations, etc. When evaluating a Student, the Trainer will also take into account, not only the Student’s level of aptitude, but also their communication skills and their mental and emotional maturity and wellness. In all aspects of the evaluation process, teachers and students must be motivated to change for the better. This is especially critical in the first two contexts -the Student
Mentor relationship and personal evolution – as they are concerned primarily with human relationships, which are at the heart of Yoga practice and application.
The Trainers will also maintain a file for each Student in the program. This file will include the Student’s personal practice/directions, reports on performances, and other pertinent details.
Some students who have studied in the tradition and feel they are competent in certain areas may choose to take a Prior Learning Accreditation Test (PLA) so that they do not have to repeat topics in which they feel proficient. If you feel that this applies to you please talk to Amy and she will develop a test for you to take. If you pass the PLA in a certain area you will not have to take or pay for the modules that you have shown 80% competency or better. If you take the exam and pass, but decide that you want to do the module anyway for extra review, then you will pay for the module just as anyone else would. If you do not pass the PLA at 80% you will be required to take all modules in order to be certified by KHYF and One Source Yoga.
KHYF Certification
Upon satisfactory completion of the program and review of the Student’s credentials, certification will be granted by the KHYF. The certificates will be issued by the KHYF and distributed to the graduates by One Source Yoga. If the KHYF feels that there is a need to re-evaluate a particular Student, it may do so before the certification is issued. Certification will be valid for a period of five years and must be renewed at least six months prior to the end of the five-year period. Certification renewal requirements include, among others, 100 hours of Continuing Education Units and 25 hours of contact time with your mentor. See the (www.khyf.net) website for full renewal requirements. Certified teachers will be invited to submit their personal listing as a Yoga Teacher affiliated to Krishnamacharya Healing and Yoga Foundation.
KHYF Membership and Benefits
Students who seek to become KHYF certified Yoga Teachers are required to register to become members of the KHYF. This allows the KHYF to track your progress and mentor hours throughout your Teacher Training program, and leads to final certification if all Training requirements are met. Once participants have been accepted into the Training program, registration instructions will be sent to them. A small fee will be charged for membership. (At the time of publication of this Information Packet, the onetime fee was about 20 Euros.)
Every KHYF teacher, therapist and trainer will be a member of the KHYF with full benefits, many of which will be accessible through the KHYF website. These benefits include access to articles and research features on various Yoga topics, forum discussions connecting KHYF members from around the world, Continuing Education workshops and seminars, special events and a database of all the certified teachers, therapists and trainers. Once certified, KHYF members will be permitted to utilize a KHYF logo indicative of their certification level.
Continuing Education Units
In order to maintain high standards of teaching, all KHYF certification program graduates are encouraged to continue learning through teaching and their own personal practice, and by participating in Continuing Education Units (CEU). Teachers can take part in CEUs that broaden the range of their Yoga skills or in any courses that support their teaching practice, such as first aid, communication skills, etc.
Graduating teachers may seek the guidance of their Trainer/Mentor when choosing which CEUs to pursue. Trainers are encouraged to offer seminars/workshops/private tutoring hours that can help graduates accumulate hours towards Continuing Education Units. CEU hours may be accumulated through study at KHYF affiliated centers such as the KYM – either through group or individual study, in India or abroad. For example Students can take a course conducted at the KYM, or even a local KHYF certified Trainer/Mentor in their own country.
KHYF Certification Renewal Requirements
Teachers are encouraged to fulfill the following recommended criteria in order to qualify for certification renewal: -Teach at least 300 classes (group or individual) over the five-year period. -Participate in 25 individual contact hours (approximately 5 per year) with his/her Mentor over the five-year period. -Accumulate at least 100 CEUs hours over the five-year period. -Attend at least two seminars/workshops/conferences hosted by the KHYF during this five-year period. The KHYF will announce these seminars, and they will carry a special logo that will serve to identify their purpose. Note: Some exceptions to any or all of the above criteria may be granted in special cases.
Equity Policy
Since Yoga is open to all, no restrictions will be made on the grounds of race, creed, color, occupation, religious or political affiliation, age, gender, and/or ability. We promote equal opportunity for all, however since this is a training program for yoga teachers, students should be reasonably mentally and emotionally healthy, and show commitment to learning through the suggested training procedure.
Commitment Policy
Students of the One Source Yoga Teacher Training Program are strongly encouraged to participate fully in all weeklong modules. Furthermore, students are not advised to participate in other Yoga Training Programs that are not congruent with the KHYF during the duration of the KHYF Teacher Training. This allows students to stay focused on and fully assimilate the Training Program Curriculum.
