WELCOME TO ONE SOURCE YOGA WITH AMY
WHEELER
Yoga has changed my
life in unexpected ways. I began yoga in 1992 and quite
frankly I found it to be esoteric and a little boring. My
life was fast-paced. I was working full-time as a Hospital
Wellness Director, working towards my Ph.D. and had just
finished a competitive career in track-and-field as a
heptathlete. Even though yoga didn't thrill me at first, I
continued sporadically with yoga as a way to reduce stress,
complement my exercise program and reduce neck pain.
Over time yoga changed my life. I began doing it every day.
I didn't even know that the changes were occurring. I began
to slow down and think about how my stress level was
impacting my health. I learned how to use deep breathing
throughout the day. I began to make connections about my
coffee intake, what I was eating, how many hours I spent
working and how my relationships were unfulfilled. Today,
not only do I manage my stress and my health through yoga,
but more importantly I feel more content and connected to
loved ones. I feel that I can be more authentic and
transparent about my goals and beliefs. I am living my life
to the fullest in each moment by taking responsibility for
my own health.
The thing that I think I have to offer is that as a Yoga
Teacher is that I understand what it means to be a Type A
person who has no choice but to modify his or her lifestyle
or face the health consequences that come with being so
productive. Second, My B.A. and M.A. in Health Promotion
and Ph.D. in Educational Psychology have given me a
thorough knowledge of Western Physiology and Psychology.
Third, I am a student of the most knowledgeable yoga
experts in the world, the Desikachar family from Chennai,
India. But the most important thing about me as a Yoga
Teacher is that I understand the importance of nurturing
the student. I feel that by nurturing the student, healing
will happen.
I hope that you will join me on the yoga journey and
empower yourself to find the healing within you. Please
begin the journey by exploring my web site and feel free to
contact me. It is my hope that you will feel as if you know
more about who I am by reading the web site. This will
allow you to determine if I could be the yoga teacher for
you or if someone else might better suit your needs. It is
very important to find a good match between teacher and
student.
