Advanced Yoga Studies
"Sangha" is defined as a community of yogis with similar intentions who give support to one another.
Amy has a Sangha of committed students that she meets with as a small group on a regular basis. There are four types of students that are in this Sangha, or group of people with similar intentions that support one another. Several students in the Sanga are already KHYF Certified Yoga Teachers wanting to learn more. Other students are Certified Yoga Teachers and Yoga Therapists from other traditions that are interested in KHYF yoga. A few are serious yoga students that want to gain credit hours towards becoming a Certified Yoga Teacher by the Yoga Alliance. Last, there are students that just love yoga and have no intention of becoming a Yoga Teacher or Yoga Therapist.
In order to join this Sangha one must have a serious commitment to yoga, to personal growth and continuing education in the lineage of T. Krishnamacharya. It should not be considered a light commitment to join the Sangha. Amy will ask that you make it a top priority in your life and may test this commitment from time to time. As with all of the precious yoga teachings that have been taught for thousands of years from teacher to student- only the most committed students receive the most precious teachings. Amy spends 6-8 weeks per year traveling to see her yoga teacher, Kausthub, in the United States, Canada, Europe and India to receive the teachings. She genuinely appreciates the intention, time, energy and family sacrifice that is required to receive the teachings.
Amy also has a Sangha of colleagues that she connects with several times per year. The Sangha also connects weekly via Skype, email and telephone. The group gives to one another love and support. It is in this model that we connect with life-long friends whom have similar values and goals. In addition, this Sangha becomes a network of colleagues that each teacher/ student can use to refer clients to and ask questions when stumped. It is really a lovely model that we do not see often in the Western World.
Please keep in mind that the role of a Sangha is to support one another in our personal growth as well as intellectual learning. For this reason, Amy will carefully choose which students she feels are ready for this training. The qualities that she considers necessary are to be self-empowered, stable in the mind, able to give and receive empathy and to have faith in the tradition of T. Krishnamacharya. It is understood that students would have life challenges and family responsibilities during certain times of the year and might need to miss a meeting occasionally.

The cost for the Advanced Studies Sangha is $20 per hour for each student. This is a very affordable way for students to this receive this advanced information. It also helps Amy to conserve her time and energy is that she can present the material in a small group format instead on teaching every topic on-on-one. Each Advanced Training Session will be all-inclusive. If you should need to miss a portion of the training, the fee will not be pro-rated for the days or hours missed.
Please know that Amy will be happy to meet with each student upon request on a personal basis so that they can receive an individualized yoga therapy practice. This session is not included in the price of the training. Please see the Yoga Therapy section of this web page for details. For those students who come to the Advanced Training from long-distance, please email Amy prior to the training so that she can set up a time for a personal session with you.
There are several text books that you will need to buy in order to become part of the Advanced Studies Sangha. All are available on the KYM web site except the Heart of Yoga, which is available at Amazon.com (The Heart of Yoga). You will not need to buy all of these books at once. Amy will tell you before each Sanga which ones will be used for class sessions and homework.
